COSMETIC SURGERY

Cosmetic Surgery has undergone some amazing developments over the last 20 years. I have been privileged to have been around during these changes in Cosmetic Surgery and Plastic Surgery and have been able to contribute as well.

The first major change in Cosmetic Surgery occurred with Liposuction and one can read more about that procedure in the relevant section on this website. Liposuction also helped us with Cosmetic Face Surgery by allowing us to reshape the neck and jaw line. By sculpturing the fat under the jaw or around the jowls patients can hope for a long lasting sharper image and a more youthful appearance. Of course the beauty is that it’s all done via two small nicks in the skin.

In around 1993 the concept of lasers began and we found them to be very precise and an improvement on some of our older methods. I used to treat wrinkles with dermabrasion yet it was a procedure that was totally dependent of the skill of the surgeons hands and could not be taught easily to others. Lasers are more standard and as there is no bleeding it’s much safer. Initially I used the Co2 laser and I recall the company in those early days would not show us the machine until I had signed the cheque for $180,000 to buy the laser! Of course I did and I never looked back. The lasers were updated and I find that the Contour Erbium works best for me and may produce a smooth refreshed long lasting result.

The lasers also allowed us to do nice eye lid rejuvenation and removal of unwanted spots and lesions.

The suture lift that has worked best for me involves fixing the skin to the ear cartilage. People like it as there is little down time, this procedure gives an immediate lift of the skin almost like how one would look if they pushed their skin towards their ears.

I’m a great believer in patient education and all risks and side effects are explained in our literature and will be out lined to the patient by myself and staff.
