Dr Lanzer’s Tips to stop the Ageing Clock:

As we grow older our skin will naturally start to change, you may start to notice more fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness around your eye area. Dr Lanzer a specialist Dermatologist and Cosmetic Surgeon has been assisting many thousands of people to “slow down signs of ageing”.

Dr Daniel Lanzer has over 20 years experience in Cosmetic Surgery and has participated in many of the advances in Cosmetic Surgery in Australia and the world particularly in Liposuction and Laser treatment for facial wrinkles and eyelid rejuvenation.

Dr Lanzer says there are several ways that May slow down the aging process and still be able to maintain healthy glowing skin.

Eat fresh produce and be careful with what you eat. To achieve beautiful, fresh looking glowing skin, eat fresh fruits and vegetables high in Vitamins A, E and C therefore eating a well balanced diet. Avoid drinking too much alcohol as this can dehydrate your skin and can cause premature aging of your skin.

Drinking lots of water helps wash out any impurities. It’s recommended we drink at least 8 glasses of water a day this. Water also helps to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized, grab a glass now!

Exercising is important to burn off energy and to work of your daily intake of calories, keep hydrated and drink lots of water when exercising. It’s recommended an average of at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day.

Even during winter, it’s good to get out and go for a walk.

Don’t smoke!

Look after your skin/ face: For nice clean, vibrant looking skin always wash your face in the morning and night and use a moisturising lotion, suitable for the daytime that has a spf 15 or spf 30, this keeps your skin protected from the harmful UV rays and also mosturises keeping your skin looking and feeling soft and hydrated. It’s important before going to bed to remove any makeup and apply a night time moisturising lotion which is often richer and works well over night to hyderate your skin.

It’s recommend we try and have at least 8 hours sleep each night. Sleep can have an impact on your energy levels and he look of your skin. Little sleep can affect ones facial appearance and can give a deprived look to your skin and your eyes can look puffy and can produce dark circles under the eye area.

Stress can speed up the signs of aging, which can lead to noticeable fine lines and wrinkles.

Dr Lanzer uses many methods to help with ageing of the skin and has divided them into 5 groups “The 5 keys to Facial Rejuvenation” visit Dr Lanzers website to read more www.drlanzer.com

As we say good-bye to 2011 and welcome the new year, it’s a time to reflect on the changes we want and need to make in our lives.

Most of us set a new year’s resolution in January and “weight loss” is probably up there on most of our lists that’s a vital part of maintaining good health. We just need to try and maintain regular exercise and watch what we eat.

I have been a Dermatologist and Cosmetic Surgeon for over 20 years and have performed over 10,000 Liposuction procedures, helping people to remove that unwanted FAT from those troubled areas, where they’ve found it difficult to lose through diet and exercise alone.

Here are a few tips to help you keep on track with your weight loss resolution.

Write your goals down – If you want to truly do something, write it down.
Journals and food diaries and “to-do lists” are a great assistance in your weight loss plan and regularly remind yourself of your short and long-term goals.

Set a definite date – If you just say you’re going to meet your goal sometime within the year, that will not work. Be realistic and strive towards dates. This will help you stay motivated.

Remove the temptations
Go into your kitchen and remove all bad foods from your refrigerator and cupboards and keep focused!

Watch what you eat – Look at seeking some nutritional- dietary and weight loss tips prior to starting any diets.

* Lean protein (chicken breast, turkey breast, fish, egg whites)

* Fresh fruits (oranges, apples, grapes, strawberries)
* Raw vegetables (mushrooms, broccoli, squash, green beans, red capsicum)
* Healthy snack
foods
* Bottled Water

Our top ten list..

1. Enjoy life – Be happy – smile more and spend time with family and friends.

This helps you smile from within.

2. Exercise.

Regular exercise has been associated with more health benefits than anything else known to man. Studies show that it reduces the risk of some cancers, increases longevity, helps achieve and maintain weight loss, enhances mood, lowers blood pressure, and even improves arthritis. In short, exercise keeps you healthy and makes you look and feel better.

3. Watch what you eat

Many Australians are considered overweight or obese, weight loss is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions. Setting reasonable goals and staying focused are the two most important factors in sticking with a weight loss program,

4. Don’t smoke

Start enjoying the rest of your smoke-free life! If you’re finding it difficult talk to your doctor and ask for any assistance programs, services, hotlines to help you kick the smoking habit.

5. Stress

With life’s heavy demands, stress can have a large impact on our health. By simply enjoying life more is an important step to a happier and healthier you!

6. Drink more water, drink less alcohol

A recommended 8 glasses of water a day and avoid excess alcohol consumption

7. Save money

Was money a big source of stress in your life last year? Look at a new years resolution where you will save a money each month, and watch it grow!

8. Learn a new skill

Education to be one of the easiest, most motivating New Year’s resolutions to keep.

9. Help someone

A non-selfish gesture can be to help someone in need, or to volunteer in your community.

10. Get organised

Organisation can be a very reasonable goal. At home or your office, organization is a key way to stay on top of things and make your life easier.

By incorporating the important tips above, you will have a better road map to succeed with your new year’s weight loss resolution! Good luck and I wish you a happy and prosperous new year.

Cosmetic Face Procedures

The facial region is a frequent target for cosmetic treatments, as one grows older we see our face develop lines and wrinkles, pigmentation and sun spots.

Dr. Lanzer’s Medi Day Spa treatments include:
Glycolic Acid Peels
The Dermaxel Fractional Laser
Facial Fillers and Relaxants
Microdermabrasion
Photorejuvenation
Airgent

Facial procedures
One of the most common areas for cosmetic surgery ‘is the face”. Dr. Lanzer offers a range of cosmetic procedures specific to the facial region. One of these is Laser Eyelid Rejuvenation. Lasers are an integral part of modern surgical techniques, as they allow precise cauterisation and modification of body tissue. The most sophisticated cosmetic techniques use lasers to reshape small areas of the body that require detailed care. Laser Eyelid Rejuvenation can reduce bags under the eyes and creases in the eyelids. This makes for a more youthful appearance to the eye.

Another facial cosmetic procedure is the face skin suture lift, a technique used to improve the appearance of the face by elevating excess skin.. Laser resurfacing can also be used here to increase the overall effect and allow the skin to look and feel more rejuvenated. Liposuction of the neck can also enhance and complete one’s appearance. A suture lift has many advantages, mainly in that it’s minimally invasive, it’s quick and carries a very low risk of nerve damage. It has the disadvantage of not being permanent, but this is a minor concern in many cases.

A range of temporary procedures, such as facial fillers, facial muscle relaxants and glycolic acid peels are also available. These can greatly enhance the appearance of your face without undergoing full surgery. Let us organize a Free cosmetic surgery consultation with Dr Lanzer who can discuss possible treatments suitable for you.

FACE MAKEOVER
Wrinkled and sun-damaged skin can look smoother, cleaner and fresher through lasering. For an immediate facial skin lift without excision of facial skin, sutures using small thin threads are passed just beneath the skin to pull the outer skin layer upwards and outwards. Fat bags below the eye can be removed without cutting the skin on the outside. The fat that causes the bulge and the tired-looking shadow is accessible from the inside surface of the eyelid.

The laser makes a fine-line incision and the fat pops out. There are no stitches and no visible skin marks and the result provide a more rejuvenated eyelid, Dr Lanzer says.
Extra skin that tends to hang down over the upper eyelid can be removed by laser surgery performed along the upper eyelid drease. The result is a more “open” eye.

COSMETIC SURGERY
Cosmetic Surgery has undergone some amazing developments over the last 20 years. I have been privileged to have been around during these changes in cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery and have been able to contribute as well.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that enables removal of excess fatty tissue from areas such as the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, back, ankles, arms, chin, lower cheeks and neck. It is like keyhole surgery to remove fat

Vaser Hi Definition Liposculpture can help reshape the stomach area for both Men and Women and can give an “athletic appearance”.

Male Breast Reduction – Man Boobs (Gynecomastia): This is now a very common procedure remodeling the male chest and removing the excessive development of “man boobs”.

Female Breast Reduction: By Liposuction alone Large female breasts, such as size D to G can often be distressing or cause discomfort such as pain in the neck, shoulders or back. Reduction is usually performed for relief of this pain or for aesthetic reasons to improve the look of an overly voluminous and/or sagging breast/ bra indentations.

Neck Liposculpture: One of the most common areas for liposculpture is the neck. Many women and some men notice that with age there is an accumulation of fat under the chin.

Laser skin resurfacing is a procedure specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face. It also treats or removes pigmentation, moles, acne scars and traumatic induced scars. Wrinkled and sun damaged skin can become much smoother, clean and refreshed as a result of a laser treatment. Lasers remove the sun damaged layers. The erbium laser is for used for face resurfacing to remove any surface imperfections and to smooth out the wrinkles.

Face Makeover: Dr Lanzer has found that the best and most natural results can be obtained by combining multiple procedures. Each procedure is directed at a particular issue and thereby procedures the best overall result.

Face Skin Suture Lift: Surgical procedure to rejuvenate the look of the face by lifting excess skin (wrinkles and bags), particularly under the chin and along the jawline, at the corners of the mouth and the cheeks.

With ageing and sun damage, the face takes on different appearances. Often there is a change in skin texture with a development of blotchy pigmentation and fine lines. This may be more prominent around the eyes and mouth. At this stage laser resurfacing can produce a smooth and rejuvenated appearance with some skin contraction and tightening of the skin.

“Rejuvenation of your appearance, through the elimination of bags under the eyes, or creases in the eyelids. To make your eye area appear more youthful and less tired”. Eyelid surgery is aimed at eliminating bags and wrinkles under the eyes and by removing the excess skin on the upper eyelid:

Anti ageing treatments are available to assist with sun damaged skin, wrinkles, leg veins, sagging skin.

Who is having Cosmetic surgery in 2011

It’s not just celebrities these days that want to have Cosmetic Surgery Procedures. I see people of all ages wanting various treatments such as Laser Eye Surgery, Blepharoplasty, Face Makeovers, Laser Resurfacing, Vaser Hi Definition Liposculpture, Liposuction, Breast Reduction, Breast enlargement, Facial fillers, muscle relaxants, microdermabrasions and various other types of Non-invasive treatments.

Interestingly patients often come in groups such as husbands and wives, sisters, brothers or good friends. Cosmetic Surgery is a rapidly changing area with new developments almost every few months.

One interesting procedure that has seen people come in groups is Hi Def Liposculpture in men. The goal is to produce the appearance of a “6 pack”. This is done by sculpturing the fat between a man’s muscles on his stomach. It is also used on the pecs , flanks and arms. Dr Lanzer who was the first to perform this method of Vaser Hi Def in Australia explains that many blocks come in with their mates or send their friends in afterwards. The word seems to catch on at the gym and at social functions.

I see both Women and Men of all ages who have diligently tried dieting and exercising to reduce their size, Liposuction is an effective technique to remove pockets of fats from various areas of the body including thighs, abdomens, flanks, upper arms, hips, chin, and neck. This procedure may also be chosen by men and women for reducing their breasts size.

There is no age limitation for cosmetic surgery. Dr Lanzer explains that some 15 years ago he operated on a lady who was 74 years old. She looked so youny that she was featured on national television in Australia and Europe. These days I will often operate on people in their eighties. People live longer and it seems they want to look younger also.

A new and exciting technique that I have brought to Australia, is the Adivive Fat Transfer system.
The Fat is prepared to be rich in Adipose Derived Stromal/Stem Cells. Where one’s own fat is harvested through liposuction and injected into the Breast for an enlargement. The Fat can also be used in the face for rejuvenation or other areas of the body.

Critical questions on Cosmetic Surgery

Dr Daniel Lanzer was seen on national television this year explaining the latest trends in cosmetic procedures. Dr Lanzer is well known in the media as he has been involved in patient education on cosmetic surgery for nearly 20 years. We asked him some critical questions.

“Why do people have Cosmetic Surgery”?

I have been working in the field of Cosmetic Surgery for over 20 years and the most common reason I see people seeking surgery is to improve their appearance of their face or body. It may be related to self esteem and its important for the surgeon to explain surgery may not change ones self esteem or general feeling. Nevertheless cosmetic surgery done in the correct setting can be helpful. Some patients have specific areas eg fat hips that bother them and others just want to look younger.

What are the most common procedures performed at your Day Surgery?
I see people that are mostly concerned with their skin and how it’s ageing and opt to have Facial Resurfacing or a Skin Suture lift to rejuvenate their appearance. Sometimes multiple procedures are required to give a full face makeover!

The most common procedure I see people for is actually for Liposuction, both men and women of all ages that have a concern with their body shape select this treatment to assist them to remove the fat in those stubborn areas where diet and exercise haven’t been able to help them. Removing pockets of fats from various areas of the body including the thighs, abdomens, flanks, upper arms, hips, chin, and neck.
I have performed over 10,000 plus Liposuction procedures.

An advancement of Liposuction is Breast Reduction for both men and women through this Liposuction method. I actually was one of the first in the World to develop and pioneer this technique on “Breast Reduction via Liposuction” and have published my results in International literature and I have lectured conferences in the USA on this method.

Male Breasts is a common concern to men of all ages, the appearance of a female breast makes a lot of people very self conscious of this.

Female Breast Reduction can be performed for aesthetic reasons, to improve the look of an overly voluminous and sagging breast and for physical reasons, such as the relief of symptoms such as pain in the breast, shoulder, neck and upper spinal problems.”

Vaser Hi Definition Liposculpture is an advanced body sculpturing that gives one’s stomach a high “definition athletic appearance”.

I see a lot of people also for Eye Rejuvenation. This procedure known as Blepharoplasty eliminates the bags and wrinkles under the eyes, or creases in the eyelids. To make the eye area appear more youthful and less tired by removing the excess skin on the upper eyelid.

Obviously less invasive procedures are available and also have good results. I do recommend that people choose their surgeon wisely and always seek a second opinion.

If a person wants to look 10 years younger what would be the approach?

The first thing I must assess are the actual features that are aging the patient. Often it’s the area around the eyes and I have been using Laser Therapy to open the eyelids and remove the lines and puffiness from the lower lids for some 15 years. The results are natural, yet much rejuvenated. Skin that is blotchy and has wrinkling or bumps, particularly around the mouth or on the lips, can be treated with the Contour Erbium Laser. Achieving a smooth, clean complexion is a true goal. Drooping skin can be lifted with small skin sutures. Fillers and muscle relaxing injections can also be of assistance. A face makeover is when I combine many of the face procedures to produce the most dramatic and overall result.

What’s keeping the Stars looking Younger?

We enjoy looking at Hollywood’s celebrities to see who’s had cosmetic surgery!
Fat can creep up on people at some time or another and fighting the bulge can be a constant battle for others. We also want to keep a youthful appearance and knowing what “anti-ageing” and skin tightening treatments are available in the market.

Many celebrities have undergone liposuction in particular a lot of celebrities post child birth, opting to select this treatment as a way to redeem their pre-pregnancy body shape to get back to work quickly.
Britney Spears, Halle Berry, Jessica Simpson are a few people rumored to have had liposuction.

Whilst it’s been known that another common procedure is Breast Augmentation and Blepharoplasty or Laser resurfacing to name a few, stars such as Tori Spelling, Pamela Anderson and Megan Fox have opted for this type of surgery.

Catherine Zeta Jones is rumored to have had eye lift (blepharoplasty), a nose job and a breast augmentation. Jennifer Aniston and Janet Jackson appears to have had nose jobs.

A lot of “Hollywood Celebrities will not admit to surgery and we can only speculate on changes made to their body. Most opt to have non-invasive treatments as well such as muscle relaxants, facial fillers, face and body treatments, anti-aging treatments, circumferential reduction therapy, cellulite reduction therapy and skin tightening treatments.

Liposculpture – Vaser Hi Definition is an advanced body sculpting procedure that combines leading edge technology with state of the art surgical techniques, resulting in a naturally sculpted, high “definition” appearance.

Many people complain that they go to the gym, eat right, and maintain an active healthy lifestyle but still have the trouble achieving the muscle definition they desire. Vaser Hi Def is a revolutionary new cosmetic technique designed to selectively remove small deposits of fat surrounding specific muscle groups (abs, pecs, glutes, lats, etc) in order to enhance the visibility of the natural muscle contour. So you can have an athletic stomach look without the work!!

Leading Australian Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr Daniel Lanzer has performed over 10,000 Liposuction procedures and says that interestingly today cosmetic surgery and cosmetic procedures is not just for the rich and famous. Many Australians across all sectors of life have cosmetic procedures.

Dr Lanzer also explains that prevention is also important in keeping young. Sun burns should be avoided as should smoking and excess alcohol.

the Top 5 cosmetic surgery procedures in 2009 were.

1. Liposuction
Liposuction was the most common plastic surgery procedure worldwide. The procedure, which removes unwanted fat from the body, represented 18.8% of all surgical procedures. Dr Lanzer helped introduce tumescent liposuction into Australia in 1992. he arranged a hands on conference to teach others and has performed 10,000 liposuction procedures since then. Dr Lanzer said it is a dramatic procedure that can really make a difference.

2. Breast Augmentation
This had been the most popular procedure for the previous 10 years, 2009 saw breast augmentation, or enlarging the breasts using implants, relegated to second place. Dr Lanzer said that there is now renewed interest in fat injection into the breast and new devices are being developed to help make the fat last longer

3. Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty or upper or lower eyelid lifts accounted for 13.5% of all cosmetic surgery in 2009.

Dr Lanzer helped convene the first hands on laser conference in Australia.
The C02 laser can help with both upper lid and lower lid rejuvenation.

4. Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, otherwise known as nose reshaping or a “nose job,” came in at number four.

5. Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty, often referred to as a “tummy tuck,” was the fifth most common procedure, representing 7.3% of all surgeries worldwide. Other options include Lap Banding or megaliposuction.

There are many more types of cosmetic surgery procedures that can be done.
Those above are only the most common, the ones that are done most of the time. No matter the type of cosmetic surgery you want to do, it is highly important that you first get all the needed information and you properly understand the risks that might be involved. You should never go for the first cosmetic surgeon you find and we recommend that you also learn about all of the aspects involved in the actual operations as well. A direct contact with a specialist is the best way to get that.

2010- Top 5 Cosmetic Minimally-invasive procedures were

Muscle relaxants

Facial Fillers

Chemical peels

Laser Hair Removal

Microdermabrasion

Dr Daniel Lanzer, Australian Cosmetic Surgeon and Dermatologist said that’s it hard to obtain comparison statistics in Australia, but agreed that these would be in the “top percentage with the USA trends” of cosmetic procedures also performed here in Australia.

Dr Lanzer’s Cosmetic Day Hospital is ISO 9001 Certified in Safety & Quality in Healthcare. “This involves the careful management of every aspect of service at every level within the Hospital to deliver world class care and safety”.

Dr Lanzer who has performed over 10,000 liposuction procedures alone said that “Liposuction” this is the most common procedure within his Day Hospital, “I see patients of all ages, both male and females” wanting to remove unwanted fat from certain areas of their body eg legs, stomach, breasts, buttock, knees, arms, neck and jowls or opting for a Hi-definition liposculpture – creating an athletic appearance.

Cosmetic surgery continues to be very popular in USA, despite the financial crisis. Less than optimal outcomes has led to a call in changes in legislation and laws to ensure better safety and control. In California they are tightening up on surgery centres and will have them operate under closer scrutiny from the state as a result of a new law signed in 2011.

The legislation requires private accrediting firms to inspect outpatient centre’s at least once every three years and allows for surprise inspections to ensure the centre’s meet safety standards for such things as cleanliness and proper use of medication. It also requires accrediting firms to demand improvements or revoke certification if a surgery centre does not meet the standards according to the Los Angeles Times, October 10.

In Australia, Hospital accreditation, The Australian health care accreditation system is widely recognised by governments, health care organisations, consumers and the public as a worthwhile tool that assists health care organisations to review and improve the systems that support the delivery of safe, high quality health care. We have national and state health laws to follow.

Accreditation is a tool to measure ongoing practice and business development as well as providing enhanced patient care, increased professional satisfaction and risk management.

Dr Lanzer’s Cosmetic Day Hospital is ISO 9001 Certified in Safety & Quality in Healthcare. “This involves the careful management of every aspect of service at every level within the Hospital to deliver world class care and safety”. This is the highest Accreditation available under the Health Department. This is an internationally recognised health care standard ISO9001 Health Services Accreditation.

ISO9001 has become the most used and published standard in the world. In Australia an increasing number of Health Regulators, or Funding Providers are accepting ISO 9001 (incorporating the CSSQH) as a tool to demonstrate sound management practice and patient outcomes. In essence ISO 9001 Certification reflects an Organisation’s commitment to quality, leadership, systems and the sound and stable processes which can deliver consistently safe and expected patient outcomes. A feature of the accreditation , is regular inspections and reviews.

According to a recent LA Times post, a new study suggests the cosmetic procedure “Liposuction” that removes fat from unwanted areas of the body may also reduce harmful fat circulating in the blood.

Liposuction may have a legitimate health benefit!

Los Angeles Times report:

Liposuction patients are usually after one thing: a better-looking body. But a new study suggests the cosmetic procedure that removes fat from well-padded areas of the body may also reduce harmful fat circulating in the blood.

Research to be presented Sunday at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in Denver was aimed at measuring triglyceride levels in 229 people having liposuction. In people with normal triglyceride levels, cosmetic surgery made no difference. But among people who started out with high triglycerides, blood tests taken three months after surgery showed a 43% reduction in triglycerides.

That’s about twice the reduction people usually get by taking cholesterol-lowering medications. There was no change in other cholesterol or glucose levels.

The study, led by Dr. Eric Swanson, a plastic surgeon in Leawood, Kan., also found that white blood cell counts fell 11% after liposuction. White blood cells are linked to inflammation in the body and are associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.

It’s not known how long the reduction in triglycerides lasts, however, and whether the surgery can actually lower the risk of heart disease. Moreover, the study raises questions about which types of fat in the body are really harmful.

“For years, it has been assumed that visceral fat surrounding the internal organs has greater metabolic importance and is more directly linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk than ‘subcutaneou fat’ that lies under the skin,” Swanson said in a news release. “These new findings support recent studies suggesting subcutaneous fat, which can be reduced by liposuction, is just as metabolically important.”

Dr Daniel Lanzer, in Melbourne Australia, has been performing Liposuction for over 20 years. He has a strong interest in Liposuction for weight reduction. Some people find it hard to lose weight and a benefit from a quick start liposuction can remove 10-15 litres in 2-3 stages for all areas of the body. Dr Lanzer stresses the importance of lifestyle changes at the same time as liposuction and therefore offers a free consultation with a dietician for weight loss advice. Alternatives to liposuction include
Gastric banding and tummy tucks.
