Photo rejuvenation with any or all of our lasers (aura laser, revlite laser, isolaz, plasma portrait, and fractional laser) works in synergy to produce the best results.
We often also combine the lasers with other cosmetic procedures for rejuvenation such as fillers, muscle relaxant injections, suture lift, and other cosmetic surgery. Liposuculpture can help shape the face around the neck and jowls but rejuvenation tightens the skin. After a suture lift the best and longest results occur if rejuvenation therapy strats to help tighten the collagen whilst the skin is lifted.
A number of our beauty cosmetic procedures in our Med Day Spa such as microdermabrasion, airgent, and peels often also complement laser rejuvenation.
It works because the laser light passes through the skin until it hits its target which is the blood in the vessels for the aura laser and the water in the deep dermis for the other lasers.
The laser delivers energy into the deep dermis where the fibroblasts (which make collagen) live creating heat.
This heat tricks the fibroblasts into making new collagen.
The process of new collagen formation takes 6-8weeks and then it crosslinks with the elastin over months.
This is why we say the improvement takes a few months to occur and continues to improve for 6-12mths.
Each time creates a difference but multiple cosmetic procedures for laser rejuvenation usually approx 1mth apart are needed.
There is risk of crust or scab with the laser rejuvenation especially if tan or fake tan or sunscreen or makeup on so come in with clean face and avoid sun.
We recommend 4-6 laser rejuvenation cosmetic procedures and over the years as we cont to age some maintenance laser rejuvenation cosmetic procedures as well.

Pigmentation is a common issue for our beauty therapists in our new Medi Day Spa.
And the good news is that in most cases either our beauty therapists or our nurse and doctors can really help.
If the pigmentation is mostly freckles and lentigines, then our laser treatments are your best bet. We have laser treatments which target this pigmentation and crusts it and it just falls off after a few days. And you can still cover up with makeup so no real downtime.
Alternatively our beauty therapists can use peels and microdermabrasion cosmetic procedures in our Medi day spa which makes your skin feel wonderful as well.
When your pigmentation is chloasma it often has a hormonal component to it and we would begin with glycolic peels and hydroquinone. We have a 6% hydroquinone concentrated solution which we use as our depigmenting lotion. After a few of these we can also use our laser if it is needed.
If you have pigmentation you want to treat, come and see our beauty therapists in our Medi day spa or alternatively book in to see Dr Lanzer.
Microdermabrasion and peels are available in Malvern, GlenWaverly, Bentleigh, Ballarat, Werribee and Geelong.

Mid face filler and cheek bone enhancement are the new breakthrough in cosmetic procedures and rejuvenation.
As we age we often lose our mid face malar fat pad and so as our rounded cheek recede our skin hangs.
Of course sun exposure and smoking also contribute to this loosening of the skin as well as genetic factors leading to hollowing of the cheeks , jowls, and nasolabial folds.
Some of us also find the skin falling to the chin causing marionette lines and depressions.
So volumising the face with our thicker fillers especially to the mid face giving us back those rounded cheeks of our youth often accompanied with filler to enhance the cheek bones rejuvenates the face and gives back that younger look.
We often combine this rejuvenation with filler with other rejuvenation cosmetic procedures such as laser or suture lift or neck liposuction.

We use an alexandrite laser for hair reduction.
We have always thought that the laser cosmetic procedure for hair reduction was the best option as it more precisely targets the pigment in the hair follicle.
The Alex laser targets pigment in a large structure so the laser mostly targets pigment in the follicle which is like a bulb/root under the surface of the skin from where the hair shaft grows.
The laser light passes through the skin till it finds the pigment in the large structure /follicle and converts to heat.
So if enough laser light finds enough pigment in the follicle to convert to enough heat to destroy the follicle completely, then that follicle is gone and its hair is removed permanently.
If a fragment remains, it may regenerate into a new follicle which is usually smaller and would produce a finer lighter hair.
So most of the hairs are removed and some are miniaturised.
Also there is only pigment in the follicle during anagen or growth phase so only those hairs in the growth phase are treated in this cosmetic procedure.
And those hairs in dormant or resting phase will need to come into growth phase to be treated.
Therefore multiple laser treatments are needed.
Also as pigment is the target, so lighter hairs (grey, white, blond, and very fine hairs) may not have enough pigment in their follicle to convert to enough heat to be treated.
For the same reason if the skin is tanned or otherwise pigmented (even with fake tan or makeup), then the laser light may heat up the skin causing side effects like crusting scabbing or pigment change..
Also it is important not to wax for a few days as if wax or pluck, then the hair is pulled out of follicle and the laser loses its target. So better to cut or shave hair as this removes hair above surface of the skin leaving target hair and pigment for the laser to hit in the follicle below.
If you have dark skin you may need revlite laser as this laser targets water in a large structure not pigment and is a safer laser in darker skin types, but only works on larger thicker hairs.

Aura laser is one of our classic lasers. We have been using it in one of its forms for over 13years. We think it is still the best laser for treating blood vessels and spider angioma. It is also a great laser for background redness and flushing, red and purple birthmarks like haemangiomas and port wine stains. And we use this laser for removing and lightening pigmented marks like freckles lentigines and chloasma.
The Aura laser is also used for a cosmetic procedure called photo rejuvenation. Photo rejuvenation is where we use the laser light to heat up the deep dermis where the fibroblasts live and then the fibroblast cells start to make new collagen which then crosslinks with elastin and plumps up and smooths the skin hence rejuvenation making the skin look as it was when you were younger.
But the best bit about the Aura laser is not just how effective this laser is, but that the laser has almost no downtime especially for rejuvenation. So it really is a walk in walk out laser treatment or cosmetic procedure in the case of photo rejuvenation.
An ideal person for aura may have some veins and pigmented spots also that get removed.

Fillers are a great cosmetic procedure for rejuvenation, softening lines scars and depressions, enhancing lips, cheek bones and eyebrows and replacing lost volume in the face which often shows up as sagging skin or jowles or nasolabial cheek folds.
Hyaluronic acid filler works like medical grade clear poly filler lifting out and filling lines depressions and scars. Also used for volumising face and often place across lines as a scaffold to reduce ongoing folding of the skin.
Our hyaluronic acid fillers are bioidentical across all species so allergy is extremely rare and we have never seen any so no testing is required.
This hyaluronic acid is identical to the molecule sitting within the 3 dimensional crosslinking of collagen and elastin in our skin and holds water giving our skin its full feel (both soft and firm).
So because it is hydrophilic and holds water it can lead to some initial swelling, which settles in a day or two.
Other risks include bruising from the needle (not the product), irregular or uneven filling which can be fixed, cold sores if you are prone to get them, and even rarer risk of infection or granuloma.
As hyaluronic acid fillers are acidic, they do sting when the filler is injected and usually local anaestheic is required.
It is not permanent and does need to be redone.
How long a filler lasts depends on which filler is used. Other factors such as position (less for lips and longer tear troughs and acne scars),
movement (so lasts less in lips of smokers), metabolism ( athletes and dancers break it up quicker) also determine when the filler needs to be redone.

Muscle relaxants aren’t just for wrinkles , we also use these for non cosmetic procedures such as hyperhidrosis (or excessive sweating usually in the underarms palms or soles).
And we also treat some patients for headaches. Although headache is an accepted side effect for a small number of people from the muscle relaxant for frowns, many more of our patients tell us that as the tension goes from their forehead so do their migraines and headaches.
Also we can reduce the bulk of our masseter muscle which we use for chewing or clenching our jaw and can lead to TMJ or jaw pain or teeth grinding. Reducing this muscle with our muscle relaxants for these indication is not a cosmetic procedure but some women with large masseter muscle bulk have a square jaw and we can soften their jaw line to a more feminine straighter line by using the muscle relaxant in this case as a cosmetic procedure.
But most people still want their cosmetic procedure muscle relaxant for reducing wrinkles and browlifts and stopping their frown and crows feet. Also some use it for reducing the DAO muscle which turn down the corner of the mouth and or contributes to marionettes lines.
We can even use our muscle relaxant injections to reduce the neck strap muscles and this also lifts the face.
Again we usually combine this cosmetic procedure with other cosmetic procedures for rejuvenation such as laser, filler, suture lift, neck liposuction, and also some of our beauty treatments in our new Medi Day Spa.
Dr Lanzer often finds that muscle relaxants immediately after an erbium face resurfacing enhances the result and the length of the result.

What Should I Ask My Surgeon?
Check whether any of the problem areas could be changed with diet or exercise.
Ask where you would be likely to store fat if you were to gain weight after the procedure. Find out where the scars will be and whether the skin will sag in the areas where fat has been removed.
Check that your age and health will not interfere with the procedure.
Ask whether you will need to wear a girdle and if so for how long.
What Do I Need To Know?
Just because a doctor has a scalpel, it does not mean he’s a sculptor. It won’t necessarily get rid of stretch marks or cellulite. Nor will it effect future weight gain or your metabolism.
How Long Does It Take?
Depending on the number of areas worked on, a liposuction procedure can take from one to three hours.
How Much Does It Hurt?
There will be some discomfort for most people undergoing liposuction surgery. It is, however, dependent on the individual.
How Long Will It Last?
Once the liposuction is complete, the fat cells in that particular area of the body are gone forever so if you put on weight, it will be in another part of your body.
What Can Go Wrong?
You could end up with uneven, bumpy contours if fat is taken from areas where the skin is more delicate. It is best to speak with your surgeon about risks involved with the liposuction procedure, as everyone is different.
Alternatives And Prevention?
Changes in diet and exercise may help to catch the problem before it gets out of control. If you struggle with losing weight via these methods, but are not keen on liposuction surgery, speak to your surgeon for other options.
For more information, please do not hesitate to contact Dr Lanzer and his friendly team of experts with any queries you may have.

As has been typical in the field of cosmetic surgery and cosmetic medicine
there has been further significant developments again during this year.
The most exciting new approach in surgery has surely been the Hi Def
Liposculpture method where I am able to produce the “six pack” look in men
and the sexy groove on the outside of the stomach in women. I learnt this
method with an exclusive group who travelled from America for a hand on
meeting in Japan and since have done hundreds of cases. This new
breakthrough was feature on two occasions on the Today Tonight program on Channel 7.
The Vaser, third generation ultrasound machine is combined with our
liposuction to help soften fat and tighten skin. Man boobs and large
stomachs do particularly well.
We are proud to announce the opening of our new MediDay Spas located in
Malvern, Glen Waverley, Bentleigh, Ballarat, Werribee and Geelong. The
approach is to combine the latest medical technology and advances with the most update beauty therapy treatments. This is ideal for face rejuvenation, pore cleansing, removal of face pigmentation and spots, body fat and cellulite and general relaxation therapies. I was featured this year on
Today Tonight regarding the non invasive treatments, especially in younger
patients.
New non surgical treatments include:
A new breakthrough has been our first laser for acne and deep pore
cleansing- the Isolaz. Its new and unique suction simultaneous with the
laser extrudes the bacteria and sebum. When combined with the Profusion
creams it is also very effective as an antiaging device on the underlying
collagen. This therapy was filmed by A Current Affairs of Channel 9.
The Velashape is the latest body smoothing treatment that combines
radiofrequency, infrared and deep rolling massage. It is very helpful after
liposculpture and also for cellulite and fat reshaping together with the
Ultrashape.
The Vibrasauna also helps with weight loss and cellulite and is a great
relaxation.
Our expert beauticians also offer relaxing massages, Danna Enzyme facials
and body wraps.
The new Voluma injection gives shape and youthfulness to the cheeks and last about 18 months.
This year The Today Tonight program also interviewed me with three most
interesting sisters. The eldest had done so well with the cosmetic surgery
makeover so her two sisters decided to follow her. The program showed their great results and also how they interacted.
If you would like to receive our latest news please give us your email
address.
Wishing you all good health,
Dr Daniel Lanzer
