Slim down - Shape Up with Liposculpture

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

LIPOSCULPTURE is becoming more popular as patients discover they can lose weight and reshape their problem areas in one procedure.

Dr Daniel Lanzer helped convene the first hands-on conference of the tumescent method of liposculpture, which involves filling the fat with large volumes of a dilute fluid before sucking the fat out.

This has made the procedure safer and more effective and it is now one of the most popular cosmetic procedures.

Dr Lanzer performs liposculpture either with the patient either awake or under a light general anesthetic in his modern day surgery centre.

Different types of liposculpture:

Body Liposculpture: Dr Lanzer can reshape and refine most fatty deposits on a female body, giving a more slim appearance.

Common areas for treatment are the two bulges of the hips and outer thigh, the stomach, inner thighs and knees, calves, ankles and the neck.

Megaliposcution: By having many liters of fat removed, patients can get a real kick-start and feel slimmer and lighter.

Patients undergoing megaliposuction often weigh 80kg to 120kg and have tried all different methods of weight loss.

Breast reduction: Dr Lanzer was the first to publish a large study of making women’s breasts smaller and lighter with just liposculpture. He can remove about one to two liters of fat from each breast. Once the weight is gone, the skin contracts and elevates.

Hi Def Liposcuplture: Dr Lanzer was the first in Australia to be trained in the Hi Def method by the group that introduced the technique last year.

Men can obtain a “six pack” appearance almost immediately and women can get that athletic groove on the stomach. The technique involves combining the new Vaser ultrasound device and a new “artistic” approach.

Male boobs: One of the most common procedures performed by Dr Lanzer is the reduction of “man boobs”. Some men are very self conscious and by removing localised fat and possibly thick breast tissue, the chest becomes flat and smooth.

Why Do it?

People have liposuction for shape issues, such as big hips or thighs. Others do it as a way of achieving more general slimming. Pain and discomfort often plays a role, particularly in female breast reduction. Some people get frustrated with all the exercise they do, for limited results.

How difficult is it to book in?

Dr Lanzer offers a free consultation for cosmetic surgery, during which he gives potential patients detailed and personal information. As Dr Lanzer has his own fully dedicated day surgery centre, the liposuction can take place very quickly. Most patients take either a few days, or a week, off work. Generally no strenuous activity is allowed for two week. Country and interstate patients can send in photographs for a free over-the-phone assessment and discussion.

How private can liposuction be?

Dr Lanzer and his staff are aware that the procedure is private and appropriate confidentiality guidelines are kept.

Many, if not most, of Dr Lanzer’s patients keep their procedure absolutely a secret.

FACE MAKEOVER

WRINKLED and sun-damaged skin can look smoother, cleaner and fresher through lasering. As a result, skin that had the appearance of belonging to a 70-year-old can take on the appearance of a 30-year-old’s skin, with longlasting results, Dr Lanzer says.

For an immediate facial skin lift without excision of facial skin, sutures using small thin threads are passed just beneath the skin to pull the outer skin layer upwards and outwards.

Fat bags below the eye can be removed without cutting the skin on the outside. The fat that causes the bulge and the tired-looking shadow is accessible from the inside surface of the eyelid.

The laser makes a fine-line incision and the fat pops out. There are no stitches and no visible skin marks and the result is a more rejuvenated eyelid, Dr Lanzer says.

Extra skin that tends to hang down over the upper eyelid can be removed by laser surgery performed along the upper eyelid drease. The result is a more “open” eye.

Permanent Enhancement?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

There are many new cosmetic procedures and treatments which have varying length of how long the result lasts for. Cosmetic Dermatologists and Specialist have been behind the development of new lasers and injections and procedures for both rejuvenation and shaping.

Permanent Face Fillers:
Many women have fillers for lip and cheek enhancement. It replaces the loss of volume that occurs with aging. A new “permanent filler” was introduced in Australia a few years ago and has recently undergone further successful testing in the USA. Dr Lanzer who first highlighted this filler on national television when he was interviewed explained that one injection can last for many years. Patients commonly have it in there lips, in the fold between the lips and cheeks and in the cheeks itself.

Liposculpture:
With liposculpture, the actual fat cells are removed permanently. This means that if there is an area of stubborn fat, say the hips or stomach, then when the fat cells are removed the area permanently will not be prone to localized weight gain as in the past. Doctors stress the importance of keeping fit and eating well to enhance the long term results as fat can come back into other areas. Liposculpture is a form of key hole surgery where the fat is prepared with a watery solution and then suctioned away.

Breast Reduction In Women:
The breast react like other areas of body fat and once the fat is removed the breast becomes lighter and tighter for many years if not forever. Hormonal effects on the breast tissue itself may change the breast size, which would be relevant especially if a teenager was having the reduction.

Suture Lift:
The skin Suture lift is an immediate lifting of the face skin without removal of face skin. It is not a permanent procedure and requires maintenance.

Eyelid Rejuvenation:
When the skin, fat  and sagging of the upper and lower lids are removed the eye takes on a more youthful “awake” appearance. This lasts for many years.

Muscle Relaxants:
Frown lines and smile creases are only temporarily treated with cosmetic injections in MediDay spas and practices.

Megaliposuction:
Patients who have battled with weight reduction can benefit from the sudden kick start of a new shape. This may be performed in conjunction or as an alternative to other weight loss surgery.

3) Reputation spreads easily and often gives a good indication about the Surgeon.
4) The personality of the Surgeon is as important as his skill. He must care, understand your particular concerns and be there for you after the operation.
5) Written literature from the Surgeon is very important and informative.
6) Does the Surgeon operate in State Of The Art Surgery and use the latest methods and equipment?

Dr Lanzer Talks About Liposuction and other Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Dr Lanzer wrote this week:

Sagging upper eyelids are common as we age and they can cause a “tired” appearance. Likewise a collection of fat in the lower lids can cause a permanent dark shadow that also gives the impression of ageing and tiredness. The co2 laser, introduced by a dermatologist more than 15 years ago, can be used to enhance the eyelid appearance. The result is natural and creates a youthful result.

If you stand in front of the mirror and push the skin towards your ear, you can instantly see what the skin suture lift procedure can do for your face.

The suture lift involves using sutures alone under the outer cheek skin, near the ears, to lift the drooping cheeks. There is no excision surgery of loose skin. The procedure is performed through a small incision behind the ear, where the suture is fixed to the ear cartilage.

Liposuction remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. It is a relatively safe method for reshaping such areas as the outer thighs, hips, and stomach in women. Men often use liposuction to remove embarrassing “man boobs” on unwanted fat on their flanks and stomach.

During the procedure the unwanted fat is expanded with a watery solution that is then removed through “key holes”. Most areas of the body can be treated including the arms, ankles, inner thighs, back and knees. Mega-liposuction is ideal for patients weighing between 80kg and 130 kg. It is often performed in two stages with a total of 10 litres of fat removed. Most areas of the body are treatable.

Liposuction can also be used to reduce breast size. Through two tiny nicks dermatologists can remove between 400ml and 2 litres of fat from a woman’s heavy breasts. Women of all ages undergo the procedure and they can return to normal duties in a few days.
